China supports earthquake relief in Myanmar

At 14:20 on March 28, 2025, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at a depth of 30 kilometers, with the epicenter at 21.85 degrees north latitude and 95.95 degrees east longitude. As of the evening of April 8 local time, the earthquake has killed 3,645 people, injured 5,017, and 148 people are missing.

Rescue operation

Immediate response:

After the earthquake, the Chinese government immediately launched the emergency response mechanism and made all-out efforts to carry out rescue and consular protection. China has become the first country to announce assistance, the first to send a rescue team, the first to rescue survivors of the earthquake, and the country to send the largest number of rescue teams.
Rescue teams: A number of rescue teams, including the Chinese Rescue Team, the China International Rescue Team, the Hong Kong SAR Rescue Team and the Yunnan Rescue Medical Team, quickly arrived in Myanmar to participate in the rescue work. As of April 6, a total of nine survivors had been rescued by Chinese rescue teams.

Non-governmental forces:

The Red Cross Society of China and at least 15 non-governmental rescue forces from across China have also arrived in Myanmar to participate in the rescue.

Aid material

Emergency humanitarian assistance:

The Chinese government has decided to provide 100 million RMB yuan in emergency humanitarian relief assistance to Myanmar, including tents, first aid kits, food, drinking water and other urgently needed materials. Six batches of emergency humanitarian earthquake relief supplies provided by the Chinese government to Myanmar have been delivered.

Specific supplies:

4,000 tents, 40,000 mosquito nets, 18,000 tarps, 4,000 sleeping bags, 10,000 blankets, more than 55,000 first aid kits, 10,000 solar lights, 2,000 cooking utensils, more than 38,800 first aid hygiene kits and 2,000 boxes of instant noodles.

Mobile housing:

Guangdong Guangshe Modular Construction Co., Ltd. joined the Myanmar earthquake relief action to support 1,000 sets of mobile housing in the project to provide temporary shelter for the affected people. These movable board houses use modular building technology, with fire protection, environmental protection, high strength characteristics, can be quickly assembled and combined, long service life and reusable.

Follow-up support

Post-disaster settlement:

The Red Cross Society of China has set up two settlements for the affected people in Mandalay, erected more than 170 tents and temporary toilets, carried out epidemic prevention and control over 100,000 square meters, and provided emergency cash assistance and three batches of aid materials.

Temporary water purification facilities:

China will also assist the Myanmar Red Cross in installing temporary water purification facilities in Mandalay, Naypyidaw and Sagaing cities.

Return home with thanks

On the morning of April 9, the Chinese Rescue team, the China International Rescue Team and the rescue team of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China completed the international rescue mission and set off for China from Naypyidaw by four Chinese Air Force Y-20 aircraft.

Myanmar's gratitude:

Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing visited the Chinese rescue team camp in Mandalay to visit all the members of the Chinese rescue team, and thanked the Chinese rescue team for sparing no effort in Myanmar after the earthquake.
China's quick response and strong rescue capability in Myanmar earthquake relief has been widely praised by all walks of life in Myanmar and the international community.
